Hook and Langford Island

On 29th December 2021 I headed off with mum and dad on Southern Cross yacht with Explore Whitsunday. Bit of an overcast windy rainy day but the next two days had been cancelled with strong wind so we lucked in. We headed over to Stonehaven Bay on Hook Island and went for a snorkel.

Of the yacht and into the tender over to the fringing reef. Considering the rain the visibility was pretty good. The water staying to get hot and could see stress signs but the reef looked to have recovered well from the cyclone. Lots of soft corals and the hard corals returning.

Spent a bit of time showing mum and dad some things crinoids, found an anemone fish, Christmas tree worms, and an eel.

But it was like 50 shades of clam! There was so many clams and so many colours was pretty cool.

After the snorkel it was raining so we stayed in our wetsuits, dropped the boom covers to have lunch and stay little warm. We then headed over to Langford Island. Some people walked over to the island to the lookout. A few of us just hung around on the sand bar and chilled in the warm water.

It was a long motor back to Arlie Beach and surprisingly cool with the wind and rain even though it was still 28°C. Was a great day on the water and the crew were lovely, I would love to go out on their pirate ship boat!
